We are pleased to offer our newest product, "Aphasia Film Forum" exercises. These materials consist of a variety of helpful tools for therapists, and partners of people with aphasia to use before, during, and after watching movies. In this way, people with aphasia can have a more enjoyable experience and be supported in a relevant conversation about the movie afterward. We see "Aphasia Film Forum" as a natural extension of the Life Participation philosophy. In therapy sessions, clinicians may find the materials helpful in providing conversational practice, encouraging alternative communication, and enhancing interpersonal exchange. Each packet also includes a set of clinical practice exercises that are optional, but may be used in conjunction with the movie packet. Currently, we are offering a variety of film packets. Each costs $5.00 via PayPal from this page. The introduction, sold separately, provides a detailed explanation for use of the materials, examples, and blank movie templates, with which you can create your own materials, based on any movie you select. Each item is a downloadable PDF file, sent to your computer on receipt of payment. Come back to this page often as we add more movies to the repertoire. | Thematic Language Stimulation: The Workbook |
Marilyn and Shirley Have revised their popular therapy workbook, Thematic Language Stimulation. This easy to photocopy, spiral-bound version contains 23 topical units, each with 12 multimodality exercises. Explore such topics as, "Shop Till You Drop," "Travel," "War and Peace," and 20 others, all created with eight vocabulary items around which a set of exercises is organized:

In addition, TLS includes blank templates for exercises, ready for you to create, using original themes with the vocaulary you select, based on the needs of your clients. Shirley and Marilyn have described this approach in Chapter 16 of Roberta Chapey's 2008 edition of Language Intervention Strategies in Adult Aphasia, and they have presented on this topic in five states, as well as at the 1995 ASHA convention. The current workbook includes introductory comments and instructions for using the material in formats that adhere to the principles of stimulation therapy as exemplified in the work of Hildred Schuell.
