Spring and Fall 2010 Course Offerings
Shirley and Marilyn
Thematic Language Stimulation is a specific aphasia treatment approach designed to change language performance and bridge traditional clinical activities with functional conversation.  This course will be offered again as a special in-house "learn and earn" program at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in April, 2011. We can come to your facility as well.   Choose a time convenient for you, and learn TLS principles and their basis in stimulation theory.  Using a small group format, attendees will train in the skills and formats necessary for using and developing their own TLS units, based upon the unique needs of their clients.  This program is offered for  CEU's, intermediate level.

The Aphasia Film Forum
is a program for people with aphasia and their therapists or partners.  It is designed to reduce access barriers and increase film-watching enjoyment and discussion through the use of supportive tools and processes before, during, and after the film.  AFF is suitable for both group and individual applications, and for people with varying degrees of aphasia.  This course discusses the cultural relevance of film and its connection to life participation applications such as aphasia book clubs, the use of Supported Conversation (SCA™) principles in preparation and discussion, and provides templates for creation of AFF templates for use with patients.

Some courses are offered at our offices in Montclair as well.  Contact us if you are interested.

Have you read our chapter in Roberta Chapey's Text?
We are pleased to have been included in the new, April 2008 Fifth Edition of Roberta Chapey's text, Language Intervention Strategies in Aphasia and Related Neurogenic Communication Disorders.  Chapter sixteen, Thematic Language Stimulation Therapy, provides background theory, describes this intervention technique, provides suggestions for its use, and provides a template for clinician use.
